Tailored.  Independent.  Fee-only.

How We Are Different

Longview Advisors is a comprehensive, fee-only wealth management and financial planning firm based in Newton, Kansas, and serves clients in the greater Wichita area and throughout the United States. As CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS™ and members of The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and the Alliance of Comprehensive Planners (ACP) - the country’s leading professional associations of fee-only financial advisors - we uphold the highest professional, fiduciary, and ethical standards in the financial planning industry.

Our mission is to serve as your trusted advisor by providing objective, transparent, and holistic financial planning solutions so that you can reach your goals and have peace of mind.

Comprehensive. We believe that a true financial plan pays attention to all aspects of your financial life. We strive to integrate the different pieces of your financial situation - retirement, taxes, investments, real estate, insurance, estate planning, philanthropy - into a unified plan.  Please see the list of topics covered in our Wealth Management Retainer.

Fee-Only. As fee-only financial advisors, we sell no products and receive no commissions. Instead, we are paid a flat fee for the advice and value we add. Knowing this, you can be confident that our recommendations are truly for your benefit - not ours. Because we are independent, we offer our clients access to a greater diversity of products and strategies and are often able to significantly reduce the underlying fees and expenses of our clients' investments and insurance.

Our Fee-Only Advantage:

  • Fees are not based on "assets under management". Instead, we are paid a transparent annual retainer fee for our service. This means that 1) we have no incentive to consolidate assets unless it's truly in your best interest and 2) we can advise people who may not yet have a substantial investment portfolio but have planning needs, high income, real estate, or other non-traditional assets.
  • We deliver tailored financial plans and investment advice - not "cookie cutter" recommendations.
  • We believe that a true financial plan pays attention to all aspects of your financial life. We work with you to optimize the different pieces of your financial situation - retirement, taxes, investments, real estate, insurance, estate planning, philanthropy - and integrate them into a unified plan.
  • Objective, data-driven investment strategies. Since we are fully independent and fee-only, we able to recommend funds and strategies based solely on what is best for you.
  • Transparency. We are paid directly and exclusively by our clients, rather than from product sales, commissions, and/or hidden compensation from fund companies. You can be confident that our recommendations are based on what we believe to be best for you and do not impact our own compensation.

A Wealth Management Retainer engagement provides comprehensive financial planning and investment management for a fixed annual fee.  This is an ongoing relationship where our firm acts as trusted guide in the financial areas of your life. Topics covered in a Wealth Management Retainer include:

  • Portfolio Analysis.  We compile a complete inventory of your investments and real estate and analyze each for costs, tax efficiency, performance, risk, and diversification.  We help you to understand what you have and whether what you have is appropriate for you and help you fix the problems you're facing.
  • Risk Management & Insurance.  Since we don't sell insurance, our sole interest is making sure you have the right amount and type of coverage. We help you determine how much and which type of insurance coverage you need, what risks you can afford to self-insure, where you should buy your insurance, how much you should pay for it, and help you maximize your employee benefit package.
  • Tax Planning.  We strategically help you take advantage of tax planning opportunities so that you aren't paying more tax than required. We help you implement tax-efficient investments, Roth conversions, charitable giving, and life-time giving.
  • Estate Planning.  Estate planning goes well beyond making a will. We help you consider medical directives and other end-of-life issues, minimize estate taxes, discuss when a trust might be appropriate, and help you decide how to most effectively transfer ownership of a small business.  We’ll help you consider options that you can implement with your attorney.
  • Goals and Values.  Your goals and values are the foundation on which your personal financial plan is built.  Whether your goal is to start a business of your own, have peace of mind about retirement, or leave a legacy through your charitable estate plan, your financial plan is coordinated so that you can do the things that are most meaningful and satisfying to you.
  • Retirement Planning.  Retirement planning is more than simply ensuring that you won’t outlive your money - although that is a major concern.  It also involves the timing of benefits, including Social Security, and – beyond the financial aspects – it’s about how you will make your retirement years personally fulfilling and enjoyable.
  • Investment Management & Asset Allocation.  We work with you to create an investment plan that is designed specifically for your particular situation and goals. We will not simply put you in a model portfolio based on answers to a brief risk tolerance survey. Since we are compensated directly and exclusively by our clients in a fee-only way (rather than through commissions from fund companies, hidden fees, etc), we can provide unbiased investment advice.
  • Cash Flow Planning.  Deciding in advance how you will spend your money ensures you are making regular progress toward financial independence and keeps your plan on track. If you are struggling with debt and spending issues, we will help you set priorities and gain control over your money.
  • Charitable Planning. We help you accomplish your charitable goals in the most tax-efficient way possible. Planning tools may include: donor advised funds, charitable trusts, and charitable estate planning.
  • Education Funding.  If you have children or grandchildren, identifying the best way to saving for their education can be a complex and confusing process. We help you choose the most effective way to save for future college costs.
  • Ongoing Consultation. Our open retainer means that, in addition to the services listed here, we will provide advice any time you request it on the financial matters that concern you.

Our firm offers tailored financial planning services which are designed to address your specific questions or provide you with a comprehensive financial plan.  When providing financial planning and consulting services, our role is to help you understand your overall financial situation, answer your specific questions, and help you achieve your financial objectives efficiently.

We provide full written financial plans, which address the following topics:

  • Asset allocation strategies
  • Budgeting and cash flow
  • Education planning
  • Employee benefit analysis
  • Estate planning
  • Goal setting
  • Insurance analysis
  • Inventory of assets
  • Investment strategy & selection
  • Portfolio/net worth analysis
  • Real estate (primary or investment)
  • Recordkeeping
  • Retirement planning

The Starter Session is designed for those whose planning needs are not ongoing or more limited in scope. A Starter Session includes:

  • 2 hour meeting or video call
  • An in-depth discussion of your 2-3 most pressing financial topics
  • A follow up email with recommendations and an action checklist so that you can take action right away

Popular questions/topics include:

  • How much should I set aside for emergency savings vs. savings for other goals?
  • How and where should I establish a Roth IRA/Traditional IRA?
  • Review and recommendations for life, disability, property, casualty, and liability insurance (by someone who isn’t selling you insurance!)
  • How should I save for my children’s education?
  • Review company benefits package
  • Student Loan Repayment Planning
  • Assistance in enrolling in your employer-sponsored retirement plan (401K & 403B) and choosing the investments
  • Cash flow/Budgeting

Questions that necessitate complex analysis like “When can I retire?” typically cannot be sufficiently answered in the context of a Starter Session and would be addressed in a Financial Planning or Wealth Management agreement.

Holistic financial planning is a process, not an event. It focuses on your goals, integrates all areas of your financial life, recognizes how your beliefs and attitudes impact the financial decisions you make, and makes adjustments as your circumstances change.

During the Initial Year of your Wealth Management Retainer there are typically 6-10 meetings, covering a number of planning topics (see Our Services for a complete list of potential planning topics covered in the first year).

In Renewal Years there are typically 2 or more meetings, depending on your needs. Topics cover a full spectrum but will usually include:

  • Investment management
  • Portfolio rebalancing
  • Portfolio/net worth update
  • Tax Planning
  • Other planning services as requested
  • Other Initial Year topics are reviewed every several years, or as needed

We sell no products and receive no commissions. Instead, you pay us an annual retainer that covers all our meetings and full access to us at no additional charge whenever you have questions or your circumstances change.

You decide if meetings are held face-to-face, online, or by phone.

This service is designed to provide you with customized financial planning for a flat-fee based on your situation and goals. The scope of planning could range from one complex planning topic to an all-inclusive comprehensive financial plan.

Typically there are 1-4 meetings, during which we cover all of your financial planning your topics and you are provided with a written summary of our meetings and a list of action items for you to implement. If you would like assistance with the implementation of your plan then that can be requested, but is not included in the standard financial plan.

You decide if meetings are held face-to-face, online, or by phone.

The Starter Session is designed for those whose planning needs are not ongoing and limited in scope. A Starter Session includes:

  • 2 hour meeting or video call
  • An in-depth discussion of your 2-3 most pressing financial topics
  • A follow up email with recommendations and an action checklist so that you can take action right away
